Emdom/MM Large GPS Pouch

The Emdom/MM Large GPS Pouch is a design collaboration between Emdom USA and MM from www.militarymorons.com. The Large GPS Pouch is designed for the Garmin Montana series of GPS units which are about 5.7” tall x 2.9” wide x 1.4” deep, but it will fit any other GPS unit that fits within those dimensions. The pouch works well with other devices such as mobile phones, digital music players, digital cameras, two-way radios, etc. The GPS Pouch is designed to allow the user to view and operate the GPS unit without having to remove it from the pouch. When mounted to an armor carrier or shoulder strap of a pack, the pouch can be left open with the unit on, leaving the hands free. The retention straps with the Velcro backer keep the unit secure while allowing full access to the screen. The Velcro backer allows the GPS unit to be easily removed and replaced if need be. The pouch is of a clamshell design with the GPS unit in the front portion which opens out and down, so the unit is operated horizontally. The angle by which the pouch opens is adjustable via the internal length of paracord. This design allows the pouch to be zipped open, the GPS unit given a glance, then the pouch zipped closed: all without removing the unit.

Mounting:
MOLLE/PALS compatible via two included long MALICE clips. Can be mounted on webbing or belts up to 2.75” wide via two included short MALICE clips. Two sewn in sets of overlapping Velcro straps can be used to mount the Large GPS Pouch vertically to the shoulder strap of a pack, horizontally to a belt, or horizontally to a MOLLE/PALS platform.

Protective stiffeners:
The front and rear panels feature internal HDPE plastic stiffener sheets to protect the GPS unit from bumps and sharp objects. The sheets spread an impact over a wider area offering better protection than soft thin padding alone. Behind the HDPE sheet in the front panel is a thin layer of EVA foam for additional padding.

Antenna opening:
At the top of the pouch is an opening with an overlapping elastic cover that allows the top antenna of GPS units or two-way radios to protrude. This opening can also be utilized to route headphones or other wires.

Opening:
The dual zippered opening runs the full length of the top and sides of the Large GPS Pouch allowing the pouch to be opened out and down. This clamshell opening is designed to hold the GPS unit horizontally. An internal paracord drawstring can be used to adjust the exact angle at which the pouch opens when fully unzipped. From 1° to 90° and anywhere in between. Each end of the paracord drawstring goes through two small One Wrap straps at the top of the back panel of the pouch and then they’re knotted. These knots can be retied to lengthen or shorten the cord. A drainage grommet at the very bottom of the pouch body allows drainage of water, sand, and other unwanted debris.

Internal GPS unit retention:
Included with each Large GPS Pouch is a 4.5" x 2" Velcro backer as well as two clear plastic straps with One Wrap Velcro ends that are used to secure the top and bottom portion of a Garmin Montana GPS unit. These straps can be configured in multiple ways to secure other types of devices. The straps can be wrapped around the edges of a device then secured to the Velcro backer which would then can be attached to the interior of the front or back panel. See photos for more details.

Other applications:
Although designed for GPS units, the Large GPS Pouch and its features work well with other devices such as mobile phones, digital music players, digital cameras, two-way radios, etc. As an alternative to using the included retention straps and Velcro patch; adhesive Velcro can be added to the back of an item which would allow it to be secured to the loop Velcro lining the interior of the front and back panel. The Large GPS Pouch will hold an iPhone 6s with an average size case.
